Seaward bush

Today I went to Seaward bush and we set some traps that looks like this but blue these are called possum master traps. To set the trap you pull the lever on the back down pull a string around two rubber hooks and twist a small orange tab on the lever and it is set. Never ever touch these unless you are resetting it. We also found bite marks in the wax tags. To identify them the possum teeth are 4-5 mm wide and the rats teeth are 2mm wide.

Seward bush

Today I went to Seaward Bush just out of Invercargill. When we got there we nailed wax tabs to the trees there about ten meters apart. The wax tabs are used to find out what pests are out in the bush. They are also used to see how many are there.

We also put down the first trap in the bush it was the D.O.C. 200 which is a kill trap for rats and mustelids.

Today at Enrich I did more on my trap project. Tim from Environment Southland came to talk to us about the pests that live there. There are mustelids, rodents and possums. He also showed us some trap that are and were used in New Zealand. One of them was the gin trap which is now illegal.
Mustelids are stoats, weasels and ferrets. Rodents are rats and mice.

Today I made cartoon faces out of numbers. The man who had the ideas is Stu Duval. With S man and 9 guy the both have the letter T in there ears. In five o his mouth is the 5 and the o is the front eye. The 9 in 9 guy is his large eye to the tip of his nose. The 4 in miss 4 is in her mouth. The s in s man is his nose to and around his eye.

Today I made a tessellation in a maths group at Enrich. A tessellation is a picture that interlocks with each other with no gaps or over laps. My tessellation is a kind of fish thing. I made mine black at white
so it looks like an illusion because you see one more of than the other. Also for environment my idea was to design traps for pests and predators in Seaward Bush.

Environment Saaouthland

Today a lady came in from Environment Southland to talk to us about problems in Invercargill. One of the two was the mud in the Waihopai river is covering the river bed and the plants and fish struggling to survive and it is polluting the water.  The other problem is that in Seaward bush native birds to New Zealand were dying because of animals that have been imported from other countries have been killing them.

This is my self reflection of term 2 2012 at Enrich.
It is to help us see what we have learnt over the term
and what we need to wok on for next term.
I have also done a key competency sheet which also shows how I think I am doing in my blogging and in managing my time to get the independent tasks done at enrich.
